Welcome to The Fenway
Hip and historic with sports-driven appeal
There’s little doubt you won’t recognize the name of this neighborhood. Home to the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park, The Fenway neighborhood is a thriving enclave that blends history with hip, uptempo appeals. Here, you’ll find historic apartments with unique character and undeniable charm among mid-rise apartment buildings as well as top-of-the-line condos and apartments with incredible skyline views — or, better yet, coveted views of the baseball game.
As with many Boston neighborhoods, The Fenway also offers a fair share of academia and cultural gems, including some world-renowned museums. When the game is too tense or the frenzy of urban life too cloying, it’s easy to take a break for a jog in the Back Bay Fens Park.

It always feels like game day in The Fenway. Whether gathering with friends at one of Boston’s historic watering holes or sitting behind home plate with a Fenway frank, there’s an air of camaraderie and energy that pervades daily life. There’s always something to do, no matter if it’s in-season or off, and some of Boston’s best nightlife destinations are right around the corner. Plus, with the green space for which the neighborhood is named running through its heart, there’s always a chance to get your own sport on. No matter where you are in the neighborhood, it’s never hard to find the beloved Citgo Sign above you, presiding over The Fenway as a beacon from the past.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
The foodie scene is on the rise in The Fenway, where modern taquerias and innovative oyster bars are taking off. Always a favorite, the Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar offers one of Boston’s most unique dining experiences: the family-style pig roast complete with local oysters, cocktail shrimp, seasonal sides, and, the main event, a whole suckling pig, slow-roasted for more than 14 hours. There are New England fish and chips and local lobster rolls on the menu, too, if you’re not in for the whole, well, hog.
Can’t decide what you want to do, or eat? Head to Time Out Market, an inspired destination modeled after Time Out Portugal, with a handful of eateries (some of the highest-rated local restaurants), two bars, a demo cooking area, and a video-installation wall.
After a jog on The Fens, pop into Cava for a healthy Mediterranean grain bowl — be sure to bring home some of their incredible hummus, tzatziki, harissa, and more. Or, pick up a traditional Greek sandwich at Saloniki — the zucchini-feta pita is a favorite. Make your own stir fry at Honeygrow, customizing your dish with freshly made noodles, garnishes, homemade-recipe signature sauces, and more. For the traditional game-day sports bar and restaurant atmosphere, you can’t do better than Thornton’s Fenway Grille, serving the area’s best American cuisine for more than 25 years.
At the epicenter of The Fenway lies Landsdowne Street with a plethora of sports bars and lively nightclubs. On the weekend, local dwellers are joined by revel-seekers from other areas of the city and outlying suburbs, who are attracted to the neighborhood’s upscale lounges, landmark bars, and live music venues.
Entertainment options continue year-round in The Fenway. Patriots Day, otherwise known as Marathon Monday, brings in top athletes and runners who have made the cut from all over the world. Seeking some cultural inspiration? Head to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Or, in the summer, enjoy an alfresco concert during the Fenway Summer Concert Series.
Things to Do
Beyond its lively nightlife scene and emerging eateries, The Fenway is also home to a number of cultural gems. Spend a weekend enjoying the museums of the area with a gallery tour at the Museum of Fine Arts or browsing the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, then sitting in the sun in the Venetian Courtyard.
Back Bay Fens Park is a serene place to escape either after work or on the weekend. Jog on the track at Clemente Field, visit the Kelleher Rose Garden, pick up a park map at the Shattuck Visitor Center and play tourist for a day, stroll the paths of the Victory Gardens, and discover the 17th-century Japanese Temple Bell.
